General
1- After many lengthy debates in the
Parliament and eventual approval by the
Expediency Council the new controversial
Labour Law came into effect as from October
1990. The major aim of the Law seems to be
to protect the employees against unfair
dismissal.
Applicability of the law
2- According to the provisions of the Law,
every employer, employee, production unit,
and all entities in Iran are duty bound to
abide by the regulations therein.
Contract of employment
3- The terms of employment are set by a
contract of employment which can be either
verbal or written and agreed upon by the two
parties. This contract should deal with the
nature of the work, wages and salaries,
working hours, place of work, date of
employment, duration of the contract and
other matters which the parties would agree
on. Every employment is deemed to be based
upon a contract.
